Live in the D: College students help with medical records in Haiti
Check out this Live in the D segment featuring the relief efforts of Wayne State students following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Students Sarah Draugelis, a graduate of Wayne State’s pre-med program, Erik Brown, a M.D./Ph.D. student, and a team of computer science students including Kevin Zurek, established an electronic medical record system that they used in mobile clinics throughout Haiti.

Wayne State students win entrepreneur innovation prize
A team of Wayne State students won a $10,000 Mobile/Web award from the Michigan Collegiate Innovation Prize program, announced Feb. 14 at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
More than 81 teams from across the state applied for the program and about 20 were selected to compete. Among those selected was a team of students with DragAroundMe, which provides a simple and easy way to share, transfer and receive files without having to register for an account.

STEM education provides options for ESFB president
Maria Guido, a mechanical engineering junior and president of the Engineering Student Faculty Board (ESFB), is interested in pursuing a career in hybrid vehicles. She’s also interested in aviation. And architecture. With her education in mechanical engineering, Guido is preparing for all three and keeping her options open.

Ford teams up with College of Engineering to speed mentor students
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and Ford Motor Company’s Women In Manufacturing (WIM) groups joined together for the College of Engineering's first Speed Mentoring Event on Thursday, Jan. 23.
Eighteen professionals from various organizations who hold careers in engineering in the Detroit area mentored almost 40 Wayne State students ranging from freshman to Ph.D. level. Nine out of the 18 mentors were from Ford Motor Company. Both men and women attended the event.
