Wayne State University

Dear campus community,

It’s been two months since Wayne State University adopted a smoke- and tobacco-free policy for indoor and outdoor spaces across campus.

We’d like to thank our students, faculty and staff who’ve respected the new policy thus far. We understand that those new to campus or visiting may not be aware of the policy.

As of Aug. 19, 2015, smoking — including e-cigarettes and the use of all tobacco products — is prohibited inside and outside all buildings or structures owned, leased, rented or operated by the university.

Wayne State’s mission is to create and advance knowledge, prepare a diverse student body to thrive, and positively impact local and global communities. One of the ways we can achieve this is by creating an environment that is healthy, clean and welcoming to all who learn, work, visit and do business here.

If you are a smoker or tobacco user who wants to make a positive life choice by quitting, we’re committed to supporting you.  The university offers Smokeless, a free comprehensive and confidential tobacco cessation program for students, faculty and staff.  Sign up for a kit today.

We encourage you to visit the smoke- and tobacco-free website for answers to frequently asked questions and to review the policy in its entirety.

Sincerely,

M. Roy Wilson
