In the Law School’s first-ever State of the Law School address, Dean Jocelyn Benson succinctly stated her goal for the next year: “Jobs, jobs, jobs.”

Wayne Law student Eric Shovein is now a published book author, and proceeds from his publication will help an international human rights and torture law organization.

With nearly 9,000 Facebook votes, The 313 Project, a group founded and run by Law School alumnae, won the January voting contest held monthly by Home Depot’s Aprons in Action. A symposium celebrating Steven Winter’s contributions to international legal and political theory was recently featured in the Netherland Journal of Legal Philosophy, the leading Dutch journal of legal philosophy.

Wayne  Law Professor Noah Hall took his expertise on environmental and water law to Lansing on Feb. 4 to facilitate a workshop for Michigan legislators about Great Lakes Policy.

Michael Cone, '94, has been appointed to a new term as a member of the Advisory Committee for the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York. He practices in the areas of administrative law, customs, and international trade with FSB FisherBroyles in New York. Cone counsels clients on a broad array of regulatory compliance issues. His administrative expertise includes matters falling under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, the Food and Drug Administration, the Fish and Wildlife Service, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Products Safety Commission, and a variety of other administrative bodies that regulate the importation and sale of merchandise. He also represents clients in all phases of litigation before federal and state courts, including the U.S. Court of International Trade. Advisory committee members work with the court to enhance its internal operations and amend its rules in order to improve practice before the court.

Robert Sedler met at the Law School on Feb. 11 with a delegation of human rights activists from the Ukraine visiting the United States under the State Department International Visitor Leadership Program. The topic of their visit was "The U.S. Experience in Supporting Freedom of Assembly." The session was an interactive one with translators. Sedler discussed freedom of assembly and association under the First Amendment and included in the discussion the comparable provisions of the Ukraine Constitution. This was the latest presentation the professor did for the State Department International Leadership Program. Since 2006, he has hosted at the Law School delegations from Russia, Ukraine, Indonesia, Spain, French-speaking African countries, the Kyrgyz Republic, and a combined delegation from various European countries.
