Wayne Law remembers 4th Dean Donald H. Gordon

Wayne State University Law School's fourth dean, Donald H. Gordon, passed away in Hawaii on March 28, 2011. Gordon served as Wayne Law dean from 1975-1980. During that time, the Law School experienced a tremendous growth in size and quality.

Wayne Law posts detailed career stats in response to ABA's Young Lawyers Division and its Truth in Law School Resolution

The ABA’s Young Lawyers Division recently adopted the Truth in Law School Education resolution, urging law schools to provide more information to applicants regarding the cost of legal education and the jobs and salaries of graduates. In particular, the YLD asked that we post on our websites a breakdown of the percentages of graduates in full-time, part-time and temporary positions, and distinguish between the salaries of graduates obtaining different types of employment.

Professor Steven L. Winter to be honored at international conference for work as legal theorist

Wayne Law is pleased to announce that Steven L. Winter, Walter S. Gibbs Professor of Constitutional Law, will be honored for his work as a philosopher and legal theorist by the Dutch Association of Legal Philosophy, also known as the Vereniging voor Wijsbegeerte van het Recht (VWR), and Rechtsfilosofie & Rechtstheorie (R&R), the leading Dutch journal of legal philosophy.

Program for International Legal Studies announces summer internship opportunity in India

Professors Gregory Fox and Paul Dubinsky recently announced a fully funded summer internship at Tata Motors Ltd. in Mumbai, India. The internship, open to current students and 2009/2010 graduates, is made possible by the generous support of Tata Motors Ltd. and the firm of Miller Canfield Paddock and Stone PLC.

Judge Keith commemorates Marching Toward Justice exhibition at his alma mater, West Virginia State University, and gives Founder’s Day keynote address

Wayne Law alumnus Hon. Damon J. Keith returned to his undergraduate alma mater, West Virginia State University (WVSU), March 17 to give the keynote address for its 120th Founder’s Day celebration. The Marching Toward Justice: The History of the 14th Amendment exhibit is on display at WVSU through April 15.

Wayne Law’s first Steiger Fellowship recipient reflects on path to law school, future in law

Third-year student Paul Isso – Wayne Law’s first student to receive the Janet D. Steiger Fellowship – has Warrior blood flowing through his veins. A native of West Bloomfield, Mich., Isso enrolled as a freshman at WSU in 2005 because of its journalism and political science programs.

Library Director elected to IFLA Standing Committee

Virginia Thomas, director of the Arthur Neef Law Library, was recently appointed to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Standing Committee on Law Libraries. Standing Committees develop policies, carry out surveys and other projects, prepare guidelines and organize open sessions and workshops at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress.

Eric Zacks's 2005 article with co-author NYU Professor Joshua Blank was cited in a Supreme Court brief. Oral argument for the case, Dukes v. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is scheduled for March 29, 2011. Dukes, a sexual discrimination lawsuit, has been brought as a civil rights class action suit on behalf of approximately 1.5 million women.
