The economic downturn has brought with it an escalation of concern regarding the value of a legal education. Law school tuition (and with it, student indebtedness) continues to increase, even as jobs at big firms are not nearly as prevalent as they once were, or appeared to be.   

Wayne Law's 93 percent passing rate is 9 percent higher than the statewide average first-time passage rate of 84 percent (after appeals).

The Wayne Law Review is pleased to host its upcoming symposium, “9/11 and the legal landscape: A decade later,” on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, in Wayne Law’s Spencer M. Partrich Auditorium. The symposium addresses some of the major legal issues presented by the Sept.

An international mix of academics, government officials and practitioners — including President Bill Clinton's former United States Trade Representative, Ambassador Charlene Barshefsky — will gather in Detroit Feb. 11 to examine legal and regulatory aspects of the United States-China economic relationship.

Wayne State University Law School third-year student Aisa Villarosa has been named a 2011 Skadden Fellow. The Skadden Fellowship Foundation awards this highly coveted and competitive fellowship to just 25-30 persons nationwide each year. Villarosa, who was chosen from hundreds of applicants, is the first Wayne Law student to become a Skadden Fellow.

Wayne State University Law School alumni Rose and Peter Houk, both graduates of the Class of ’69, know how to keep a secret. The couple met as students at Wayne Law, but didn’t tell anyone they were dating until they sent out their wedding invitations right before their last year.

Wayne State University Law School congratulates Diane H. Fears, director of Career Services, on her appointment to the Board of Directors for the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Project (MiUI).

Alumni Accomplishments

Lynn A. Gandhi, '86, a partner with Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn, was named secretary of the State Bar of Michigan's governing body of the Tax Section known as the Tax Council. Gandhi is a partner in Honigman's tax appeals department. In her law practice, Gandhi advises clients on a national basis regarding multistate tax strategies, tax disputes and litigates state tax cases. Her areas of concentration are state income and gross receipts taxes, sales and use taxes, the Michigan Business Tax and other excise taxes. She is a certified public accountant recognized in Michigan and Illinois.
