Wayne Law News Wayne Law Welcomes Fall 2009 Entering Class Wayne Law is pleased to welcome its Fall 2009 entering class to campus. Orientation for first-year Wayne Law students began Aug. 25, 2009, at the Law School.  Wayne Law Professor Hammer Named Director of Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights Wayne Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Peter Hammer as the first Director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights. The Keith Center honors the life and civil rights legacy of Judge Damon J. Keith and carries that vision into the future through active programs of legal studies and community engagement.  Wayne Law to Host Traverse City Alumni Reception, Sept. 10 Wayne Law is pleased to announce an alumni reception that will take place from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2009, in Traverse City, Mich. LaBelle, a long-time human rights attorney based out of Ann Arbor, Mich., filed Nunn v. Wayne Law is pleased to present a public lecture by New York Law School Professor and Wayne Law’s Distinguished Professor in Residence Nadine Strossen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009.  Wayne Law to Host 24th Midwest Clinical Law Teachers Conference, Oct. 9-11 Wayne Law is pleased to host the 24th Midwest Clinical Law Teachers Conference, the oldest regional clinical conference in the country, Oct. 9-11, 2009. This year’s Conference is modeled on “one book, one community” projects that have been organized in towns and on campuses across the nation in the past decade.  Professor and Urban Planning Expert John Mogk Looks to Contribute to a Lasting Change in Detroit and Michigan It’s no wonder that Wayne Law is known for its publicly committed students. Karnani concentrates her practice in the area of family law. She was named a Rising Star by Michigan Super Lawyers Magazine (2008) and was the first recipient of the Washtenaw County Bar's Pre-eminent Young Lawyer Award (2005). She has completed the ICLE Family Law Certificate Program, as well as served as co-chair of the WCBA Family Law Section for two years, as the Friend of the Court liaison for the WCBA for a year and on the board of the Washtenaw County Chapter of the Women Lawyers' Association of Michigan. Faculty AccomplishmentsAssociate Professor of Law Julia Qin attended the second annual meeting of the Asian Society of International Law and the inaugural conference of the Asian International Economic Law Network, held at the University of Tokyo, Japan, in early August, and presented a paper on "Managing Conflicts Arising from WTO and RTA Rulings." Professors in the NewsProfessor of Law Peter Henning commented in a Wall Street Journal story about the SEC's curtailment of so-called "tolling agreements." Under such agreements, the SEC and respondents both agree to suspend the statute of limitations while they try to resolve a civil or administrative action.
