Mark Weiss Day Raises Scholarship Dollars for Wayne Law Students and Recent Graduates, Serves Disadvantaged Detroit Children More than 100 Wayne Law alumni, friends and Detroit-area disadvantaged youth gathered for the 6th annual Mark Weiss Day at Comerica Park on June 5, 2009, to watch the Detroit Tigers take on the Los Angeles Angels. The event raised more than $13,000 in support of the Mark Weiss Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was created six years ago to honor the legacy of Wayne Law alumnus Mark Weiss, ’69, and his efforts to fight for the rights of the poor and powerless.

Wayne Law Alumnus, Director of Student Life and Educational Outreach Elected to Serve on LSAC Board of TrusteesWayne Law Director of Student Life and Educational Outreach Ricardo M. Villarosa, ’97, was recently elected to serve as a member of the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) Board of Trustees. One of only three trustees elected this year to the international board, Villarosa will serve a three-year term.
Student Profile: Brandon DavisBrandon Davis’ mother gave him two options as a child. “In first grade she said, ‘be a lawyer or a preacher,’” joked Davis. “From that point on I knew I was going to law school.” Now, the 22-year-old Wayne Law student looks back on his mother’s advice and smiles – knowing that she, indeed, knows best.

Professor of Law Peter Henning commented in a CTV.ca story titled "Prosecutors may target Madoff's family next" on June 27, 2009. Since Madoff has stated he worked alone on the Ponzi scheme, Henning explains that there will need to be substantial evidence to link Madoff family members to the fraud.
