Wayne Law received a generous $155,000 gift from Bodman LLP at the 12th annual Treasure of Detroit Gala held at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit on March 28, 2009. Bodman served as the event’s Presenting Sponsor.

Wayne Law Announces Recipients of Public Interest Law Fellowships

Wayne Law students Kimberly Adams, Eric Berg, Lara Chelian, David Deeg, Jason Dinsmore, Elisa Gomez, Laura Kubit, Aisa Villarosa, Rita Subhedar and Erica Washington will be gaining practical legal experience through $6,000 Public Interest Law Fellowships that will allow them to work for a variety of agencies and clinics in Michigan and Washington, D.C.

Wayne Law is pleased to announce the addition of a new law clinic aimed at providing students with practical experience and serving the greater community. The Environmental Law Clinic will be offered starting in fall 2009.

Wayne Law Student Receives American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Scholarship

Second-year Wayne Law student Sarah McElwaney received a $2,500 scholarship from the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) at the Chapter’s annual seminar held at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham on May 7, 2009.

Wayne Law Student Re-appointed to National ABA Committee

Wayne Law third-year student Solomon Radner was recently re-appointed as the student liaison to the American Bar Association’s (ABA) White Collar Crimes Committee. Radner is the only student liaison to the White Collar Crimes Committee in the country, and is among only 64 law students nationwide chosen as 2009-2010 ABA student liaisons.

Wayne Law Alumnus Assists Wayne Law with Planned Gifts

Mike Witzke, ’89, is an estate planning attorney who loves what he does. He derives great satisfaction from working with individuals to understand their financial and philanthropic goals, and then assisting them to assure their assets will be handled according to their wishes. As a service to his alma mater, Witzke is working with Dean Robert M. Ackerman and the development staff to encourage planned gifts for the future of the Law School.

Alumni Accomplishments

The Hon. Linda Hallmark, '77, Oakland County Probate Judge, was the recipient of the 25th Wonder Woman of 2009 award presented by the Women Officials' Network Foundation on April 30, 2009, at The Reserve in Birmingham, Mich. The award is given to those women who significantly contribute civically or professionally to their communities. The focus of the event is to support and acknowledge these women for their accomplishments and to recognize them as role models for other women.

Distinguished Professor of Law Robert Sedler is celebrating 50 years since his graduation from law school. He was honored, along other 50 year members of the bar, by the Michigan State Bar at a luncheon on May 11, 2009. Professor Sedler is also a member of the Kentucky State Bar and, along with a number of other members of the Kentucky Bar, will be honored as a senior counselor at the Bar's annual meeting in Covington, Kentucky on June 12, 2009.
