Incoming first-year class enrollment climbs again at Wayne Law

Wayne Law welcomed 138 first-year students for fall semester, a 5 percent increase over last year’s class of 131 students. This is the second consecutive year of enrollment growth. Last year, first-year class enrollment increased 10 percent over the previous year. In addition, this year the Law School welcomed 10 transfer students to its second-year class.

William Ortman joins faculty William Ortman joins faculty  

William Ortman has joined the faculty of Wayne Law as an assistant professor. For fall semester 2016, he will be teaching Administrative Law. Ortman comes to Wayne Law from Harvard Law School, where he served as a Climenko Fellow and Lecturer on Law since 2013. He earned his law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.

For the third consecutive year, Wayne Law has been recognized as a Best Value Law School by The National Jurist and its sister publication, preLaw magazine. Wayne Law was the only Michigan law school recognized. Criteria for selection includes price of tuition, student debt accumulation, bar passage rate, cost of living and – given the greatest weight – employment rate.

Service project at urban farm featured during Orientation Week Service project at urban farm featured during Orientation Week  

Incoming first-year, LL.M., transfer and guest students, as well as some faculty and staff and second- and third-year students, from Wayne Law participated in a service project Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative in Detroit. The service project was part of the Law School’s Orientation Week events for new students.

Librarians present paper at World Library and Information Congress in Ohio  

Librarians from the Arthur Neef Law Library at Wayne Law presented a paper at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions 82nd World Library and Information Congress in Columbus, Ohio. Their paper is “Bringing Law to the Community: Facilitating Access to Justice in Metropolitan Detroit." The federation has more than 1,300 member institutions from 140 countries, many of which were represented at this meeting. Representing the Arthur Neef Law Library were Director Virginia Thomas and Public Services Librarians Beth Applebaum, Jan Bissett, Michelle LaLonde and Michael Samson.
