Announcement from the Provost - Wayne State University

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce organizational changes within the Office of the Provost. R. Darin Ellis, who was recently appointed associate provost and associate vice president for undergraduate affairs, will now assume the joint role of associate provost for academic programs and associate vice president for institutional effectiveness. In our pursuit for continuous improvement, this new framework will link the impetus for change to the mechanisms of change.

As associate vice president for institutional effectiveness, Darin will provide leadership to enable and advance data-supported decision-making across our academic units and in support of the university's strategic plan. To fulfill this mission, Darin will supervise the offices of Institutional Research; Assessment; Academic Program Review; and Testing, Evaluation and Research Services, as well as functions supporting Higher Learning Commission accreditation and aspects of the WSU Strategic Plan.

As associate provost for academic programs, Darin will oversee the Office of the Registrar and the University Bulletin, as well as the review and approval process for changes to our academic policies and curricula. Additionally, he will serve as the provost’s liaison to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee of the Academic Senate and as chair of the General Education Oversight Committee.

As a part of this reorganization and reflective of my commitment to provide our students with a premier college experience, Dean of Students David Strauss will report directly to me.

Sincerely,

Keith E. Whitfield
Provost
