Dear colleagues,
As you may have heard in the media, former Wayne State University President David Adamany passed away last Thursday. He served as president from 1983 to 1997.
I didn’t know David well, but many of you did. From what I understand, David was a force for change and was relentless in his pursuit of excellence. He led Wayne State for 15 years, and his energy and resolve in facing challenges helped revitalize Wayne State during a difficult time in its history.
David invested heavily in research and new buildings, helping to lay the foundation for a premier urban research university. His courage and commitment helped Wayne State become a better university, and we all are beneficiaries of his efforts.
His commitment to Detroit did not end at the conclusion of his service as president. He continued as a professor in our Law School, and served as the superintendent of the Detroit Public Schools from 1999 to 2000, before leaving Detroit to lead Temple University as its chancellor.
As our current president, I appreciate and share his passion for excellence. We owe David gratitude for his service to our university, and join together in expressing our sincere condolences to his friends and family.
Regards,

M. Roy Wilson
President
