Changing the narrative: Social Work faculty member partners with local organization to empower Detroit fathers

Advancing social justice and strengthening community relationships are at the heart of social work. For Associate Professor Carolyn Dayton, this means working hand-in-hand with the Family Assistance for Renaissance Men (F.A.R.M.) to help Detroiters become better fathers, one family at a time.

Founded BSW student Kristen Prasiloski and MSW student Tina Zerilli, the SWQA seeks to address the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and more) student warrior community through a collaborative-based approach in which all people can advocate, learn and support one another on an individual, group and community level.

A recent study led by WSU Social Work Assistant Professor Rebeccah Sokol and U-M co-authors Patrick Carter and Marc Zimmerman sheds light on the striking increase in gun purchases during the pandemic and what it may mean for the thousands of American high school teens who die from a firearm injury.

Are you seeking a BSW or MSW degree in the near future? If so, we need your input on online social work education! We are developing a new MSW online program and modifying our BSW online program and request that you complete this 8-question survey. Your input will guide the design of the programs.

Fourteen new online CE courses now available  

The Social Work Office of Continuing Education has launched 14 new online CE courses on subjects ranging from grief and loss to supervision and telehealth (new courses are at the bottom of the page). These can be completed anytime, anywhere by simply purchasing the course, reviewing the materials and passing the post-test.
