Wayne State’s 150th academic year culminates with commencement ceremonies
More than 4,000 Wayne State University students have applied for graduation this spring, concluding the university's milestone 150th academic year. The 2018 Commencement will feature two ceremonies on Tuesday, May 8, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Ford Field, which is located in Detroit at 2000 Brush St. Graduates, as well as their families and friends, are encouraged to share their stories and celebrations by visiting WSU's Social Media Zone at Commencement.

From Puerto Rico to Detroit: Orlando Rios finds his research home
Even before Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc on Puerto Rico in September 2017, Orlando Rios felt his opportunities to continue his undergraduate research at the University of Puerto Rico were limited due to budget cuts at the institution. In the weeks after Maria made landfall, he knew those chances were even slimmer. Rios has made the move to Detroit and enrolled at Wayne State, with the goal of finishing his undergraduate degree in environmental science with a minor in geology before pursuing his master’s.

The Kresge Foundation powers new investment fund at Wayne State University
The Kresge Foundation and Wayne State University officials have announced a $2 million student-managed investment fund that complements a course designed to teach students the essentials of portfolio management and stock evaluation and selection. The fund is a carve-out of the foundation’s $3.8 billion endowment and is intended to provide real-world investment experience to Mike Ilitch School of Business undergraduates while exposing them to local career opportunities in investment management.

Top student-athletes celebrated at 18th annual Academic Recognition Luncheon
The Wayne State University Department of Athletics honored Warrior student-athletes who recorded at least a 3.5 grade-point average for the fall 2017 semester during its 18th annual Academic Recognition Luncheon. A school-record 33 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 term GPA with a record 74 percent of Warrior student-athletes receiving above a 3.0 for the semester.

Giving Day brings university-wide success
Wayne State’s second annual Giving Day was a major success, making a significant impact across the institution by supporting student success, community engagement and research projects. On Thursday, April 12, more than 900 members of the Wayne State community contributed more than $411,000 — an 81 percent increase in dollars and a 43 percent increase in donors over last year's inaugural Giving Day.
