Aspiring educator finds her Way Back
When Luanne Romano's daughter began pursuing a degree in education at Wayne State, Romano decided it was time for her to return to school. Thanks to the university's Warrior Way Back program, she's currently enrolled and one step closer to graduation.

Word Warriors releases 2019 list
The beginning of the year is a time for resolutions. Some may vow to stop being such a slugabed and finally wake up early, heading to the gym to stop being so fubsy. Others may commit to get outside and enjoy some salubrious activities that cut through the anhedonia. The Wayne State Word Warriors’ resolution is to curb logorrhea by reintroducing wonderful words to the world’s vocabulary.

Driving heart health
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) was one of 21 state health departments to recently receive funding to address significant heart health problems. As part of this, a new partnership has been forged with Wayne State researchers who will directly work with MDHHS in their efforts to prevent and manage cardiovascular health and diabetes.

AmeriCorps, WSU join forces to help secure Detroit neighborhoods
Through the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Program, volunteers are working with Detroit residents to help make their homes safer. Volunteers provide the resident with all of the quick safety fixes applicable, including fire and carbon monoxide detectors and deadbolt locks.

Application for Alternative Spring Break is now open
During Alternative Spring Break Detroit, held March 10-14, students will share a variety of experiences to better understand and enjoy our own backyard. In addition to volunteer opportunities, students will have the chance to learn about Detroit’s history, dine at various restaurants, visit art galleries and other cultural hot spots, and connect with movers and shakers who are playing a starring role in the city’s revitalization.
