Meanwhile, a new report has recognized Wayne State as the best university in Michigan in helping students achieve socioeconomic growth.

Now, the U.S. News & World Report 2022 Best National Universities rankings has identified WSU as one of the top-performing schools in the nation — and the best in Michigan — at helping economically disadvantaged students succeed and graduate.

Apply now for financial aid
If you want to maximize the amount of financial aid your student is eligible for, the 2022-23 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) submission process is now open. To help students, the Office of Student Financial Aid is offering FAFSA Fridays, during which a financial aid officer will assist students and parents with the filing process. FAFSA Fridays will be held in October and November.

Geology professor runs 40 miles on 40th birthday to raise money for students
As Sarah Brownlee’s 40th trip around the sun approached, she did what anyone would do: run 40 miles in a day to celebrate. To break up the monolithic 40-mile journey through Detroit, Sarah Brownlee enlisted friends, Wayne State students and colleagues to help. But instead of running for herself (and not a mid-life crisis), Brownlee also did what any good professor would do — help their students.

Student organization delivers fruits and vegetables to Detroit residents with chronic health conditions
A nutrition-based community outreach effort led by Wayne State University medical students is making the childhood edict to “eat your veggies” easier to achieve for food-insecure children and adults in Detroit. Fresh Prescription, or Fresh Rx, is a student-run organization at the School of Medicine that provides participants, specifically Detroit residents with chronic health conditions, with a free “prescription” to purchase food at markets or have fruits and vegetables sent to their homes.
