A new State Hall: Iconic Wayne State building to feel completely new in fall 2023
Most Wayne State students have had at least one class in State Hall since it opened in 1947. But thanks to a $70 million renovation, many of those students might not recognize the building when it reopens in fall 2023.
The fully renovated State Hall will feature new classrooms, lecture halls, meeting and lounge spaces, a reflection room, lactation room, and all-gender restrooms.

Wayne State welcomes largest number of Detroit Promise students
Wayne State University awarded the largest number of Detroit Promise scholarships for the second consecutive year, ahead of all other Michigan universities. This scholarship offers debt-free education for eligible Detroit Public School graduates and city residents at participating colleges for trade, two-year and four-year credentials.
Funding from the Detroit Promise covers the total cost of tuition and other fees included in registering, including enrollment, registration and student service fees.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s’ Ivy Haralson epitome of Warrior strength
It wasn’t until Ivy Haralson arrived on the set of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, dressed in full costume as one of the Dora Milaje — an elite group of all-female warriors — that she realized it wasn’t a dream.
But to reach the Kingdom of Wakanda, a fictional country in East Africa, Haralson had to take many steps — and stunts — around the world.

Warrior Meal Share Program helps students in need
Wayne State students can anonymously help each other or receive help, thanks to the Warrior Meal Share Program.
The program allows students with meal plans to donate their extra guest meals. Those meals are loaded onto cards, which are available for students in need and facing food insecurity.

First-Year Interest Groups create community, simplify registration for incoming students
First-year students are getting to know campus, connecting with one another and exploring academic pathways together through Wayne State University’s new First-Year Interest Groups (FIG), which use block scheduling to create academic-based learning communities and simplify registration. There are currently 20 FIGs, with a total of 405 students, representing approximately 15% of the 2022-23 incoming class.

New relaxation space opens in University Health Center
A new relaxation area for Wayne State University School of Medicine students is now open in the University Health Center. The school celebrated the grand opening of the new student relaxation space with an Oct. 17 reception. The new facility is the result of a year-long collaboration between the Student Senate and the Dean’s Office.

Wayne State’s Abolmaali brings robots, AI research to inspect service life of Michigan’s pipelines
Ali Abolmaali has been dean of Wayne State’s College of Engineering for only two months, and already, the former chair of the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Texas at Arlington is bringing his research to Midtown. The Abolmaali team determines the remaining service life of pipelines through robotic inspection and artificial intelligence research, which can be as successful in Michigan as it has been in the Lone Star state
