Graduate Medical Education welcomes 44 new residents for 2019
On Tuesday, June 25, in Margherio Family Conference Center, WSUGME held its 2019 New Resident Orientation, officially welcoming its incoming intern cohort of 44 physicians (pictured above) who would begin their residencies the following week. In addition to introductory sessions on the “GME World” and the basics of Wayne State employment, our agenda for the day included a slate of brief overviews of key topics in Graduate Medical Education:professionalism, medical errors, care transitions, cultural competency, and wellness.

OSCE/OSHE training, Kado Family Clinical Skills Center
The Office of Graduate Medical Education has scheduled the OSCE/OSHE training activity in the Kado Family Clinical Skills Center (Mazurek Commons) for July 22, 23, and 25, and August 7 and 9. All interns and PGY-2s are required to participate. Full information and scheduled times were sent via email the first week of July. Contact your Program Coordinator or Dr. Kenaga at ci3238@wayne.edu if you have questions or did not receive this email.

Dr. Kevin Ginsburg publishes noted research on prostate cancer
Dr. Kevin Ginsburg (PGY-5, Urology) was first author of a study published last fall in European Urology (the top journal in the field) on the problematic aspects of active surveillance as the preferred management strategy for many men with prostate cancer. Promoting Resident Wellness

The Baroudeur cycling event: August 17, 2019
Wayne State University will be hosting the 5th annual Baroudeur (French for warrior) fundraising event this August, bringing more than 1,000 cyclists to Detroit. Inaugurated by President W. Roy Wilson and Mrs. Wilson, this ride through the Motor City helps support WSU student scholarships. The event is also seeking medical students and residents to volunteer their time and skills to assist cyclists. For more information: https://baroudeur.wayne.edu/

Internal Medicine caps off a year of wellness
Internal Medicine residents held their final wellness event for 2018-19 at Dr. Mohammad Fityan's home on June 9. The party was organized and hosted by the IM Wellness committee, to be led by Dr. Neeharika Ralh for the upoming year. For a great photo, click here.

Farmer's Market: Every Wednesday through October
Wayne State's Farmer's Market is open every Wednesday from June through October, from 10 am to 3 pm. Located at the corner of Woodward and Warren, the Market is readily accessible via the Q-Line, bus and shuttle stops. There's also 15-minute free parking for market patrons. Vendors include locally sourced fruit and veggie producers and multiple food trucks as well as city favorites such as Avalon International Breads. There are cooking demos, health and nutrition screenings, yoga, and lawn chess every week.

Internal Medicine resident graduation ceremony, June 13
The WSUSOM Internal Medicine program held its 2019 graduation ceremony at Cherry Creek Golf and Banquet Center in Shelby Township on the evening of June 13. Following a buffet dinner, program staff offered a slide show of notable moments from the past year and then Dr. Sarwan Kumar, Program Director, presented graduation certificates to 12 residents. Receiving special recognition were Dr. Victoria Gonzalez, Intern of the Year; Dr. Sana Chams, Resident of the Year; and Dr. Toribiong Uchel, who received the Clinical Excellence Award.
