The Wayne State University School of Medicine Alumni Association celebrated and honored the contributions of four distinguished physicians during an awards banquet that capped the 2017 Medical Alumni Reunion weekend. The four were recognized May 20 at a reunion dinner at the MGM Grand in Detroit following a day of continuing medical education sessions at the School of Medicine. The annual event allowed members of graduating classes from across the country to meet and catch up with classmates, and to learn about the school’s progress from Dean Jack D. 2017 M.D.-M.P.H. graduate Regina Wang earns U.S. Public Health Service accolades

Regina Wang, a 2017 graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine’s M.D.-M.P.H. dual-degree program, was awarded the United States National Excellence in Public Health Service Award for her commitment to integrating public health with primary care practice. Nominations are evaluated based on the level of leadership demonstrated, the impact of the student’s work and the student’s commitment to a career in public health/preventive medicine. Read more.

The Detroit Medical Orchestra has been extending the healing power of music to the greater Detroit community through its series of classical music concerts. The most recent concert, May 21, was presented during the Medical Alumni Reunion Weekend and was well attended. Your donations help support the DMO’s needs as musicians and allow the DMO to offer concerts free of charge to the community. Short-term volunteers needed for inaugural learning communities!

The Wayne State University School of Medicine is looking for alumni to serve as members of short-term development teams for new student learning communities being formed for the 2017-2018 academic year. Alumni are needed to work with teams of students and faculty members to structure the learning communities. The time commitment is approximately two hours a week through July. If you are interested and would like more information, contact Laurie Richlin, Ph.D., at lrichlin@med.wayne.edu.
