LCME continues School of Medicine’s full accreditation through 2022-23

The Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the accrediting body for North American medical schools, has continued its full accreditation of the Wayne State University School of Medicine through the 2022-23 academic year. The LCME notified WSU President M. Roy Wilson and School of Medicine Dean Jack D. Sobel, M.D., of the full accreditation continuation via a letter received Oct. 19. Click here to read more.

Fiscal year 2017 was a very productive and successful year for the Medical Alumni Association.  Donations to the Medical Alumni Annual Fund reached their highest level in history and the number of alumni who support the School of Medicine continued to increase.  Several exciting new initiatives were launched, including the Notable Alumni website and the White Coat Sponsorship program, while alumni/student engagement opportunities expanded significantly.  Click here for more highlights from 2017 and learn how the Medical Alumni Association is promoting alumni pride, excellence and loyalty while supporting a robust medical education for students.

Family history inspires alumni to establish an endowed award for community service

Family, education and a dedication to the community are what motivated Wayne State University sweethearts David Blum, M.D. ’72, Res. ’76, and his wife, Marie Blum, MLIS ’71, to establish the Herman and Eva Blum Endowed Award at the Wayne State University School of Medicine. This new annual award will be announced at Match Day starting in 2018. Fourth-year students who have displayed a devotion to community service throughout their time in medical school may be nominated for the award. Click here to read more.

The Aesculapians are involved in many medical school activities, including First-Year Orientation and Orientation Guide, the annual Appreciation Call, Peer Mentoring Program, and the sponsorship of the end-of-year event, Lampoon. They select one service organization based in Detroit to be sponsored yearly. This year, they are sponsoring the LAWN Academy, pictured above. The charity will receive the proceeds from Lampoon and students will also organize volunteer events for members and the School as well.
