Point of View: The future of graduate and postdoctoral training in the biosciences

Graduate School and WSU BEST leadership including Dean Ambika Mathur, Associate Dean Andrew Feig and Professor Christine Chow (CLAS, Chemistry) contributed to a recent article summarizing the outcomes of the second national conference on the Future of Bioscience Graduate and Postdoctoral Training (FOBGAPT2). The article addresses developing polices to address diversity in leadership positions, mentoring, modernizing the curriculum, experiential learning, and improving data on trainee outcomes.

Jan. 19: Doctoral student writing retreat January meeting

 

The WSU Graduate School is sponsoring ongoing monthly writing retreats through May 2018 hosted by the Office for Teaching and Learning (OTL) exclusively for doctoral students. An invited speaker will give a brief presentation at noon on topics related to graduate school and academic life. Coffee and lunch will be provided. Details and sign-up under "Training, Seminars, Workshops" in Academica.

The Graduate and Postdoctoral Research Symposium is an annual event that showcases the research and scholarly work of graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across disciplines at Wayne State. The 2018 event will include a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, awards for posters presentations and micro-credentialing opportunities. Details and abstract submission guidelines coming soon.
