In 1868, five physicians who witnessed the crude medical treatment on Civil War battlefields dedicated themselves to advancing health education and care, and founded the Detroit Medical College. Today, the Wayne State University School of Medicine is part of a premier research institution composed of 13 schools and colleges. The Wayne State University School of Medicine is in the process of enhancing its Year 1 curriculum thanks to the thoughtful and collaborative efforts of a large number of Warrior Medicine community members. The revision process began with an October 2017 stakeholder retreat, the same month the Liaison Committee on Medical Education issued its final decision to continue full accreditation of the Wayne State University School of Medicine through the 2022-23 academic year. Join us May 18-20 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the School of Medicine and our special graduating classes ending in 3 and 8 (i.e. 1963, 1968). Whether you are looking for Continuing Medical Education opportunities or a chance to rekindle friendships, reminisce, reflect or just celebrate, Medical Alumni Reunion Weekend offers something for everyone! The schedule includes a reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts on Friday night, followed Saturday by a full day of activities including CME, lunch, school tours, class receptions, dinner and an award ceremony. This year’s award recipients are Erlene Seymour, M.D. ’08 - Recent Alumni Award; Anju Goyal, M.D., Res. ’04, Fel. ’05 - Lawrence M. '57, M.D. '60, and Barbara Klarman, J.D. '64, have generously committed much of their time and resources to both the city and the university that have played key roles in their lives.
