Class of 2018 celebrates historic 98.3 percent match success rate at Match Day 2018

The Match Day celebration for the Wayne State University School of Medicine Class of 2018, held in the MGM Grand Detroit ballroom March 16, marked the arduous work of at least the last four years, resulting in a 98.32 percent residency match rate for the Class of 2018. WSU's rate surpasses this year’s national match rate of 94.27 percent for allopathic students, in a year that saw 43,909 United States and international medical school students and graduates vie for 32,910 available positions. Invitations have been mailed and registration is open! Join us May 18-20 to celebrate our special graduating classes ending in 3 and 8 (i.e. 1963, 1968). Whether you are looking for Continuing Medical Education or a chance to rekindle friendships, reminisce, reflect or just celebrate, Medical Alumni Reunion Day offers something for everyone. The schedule includes a reception at the Detroit Institute of Arts on May 18; CME, lunch and tours at the School of Medicine followed by class receptions, dinner, awards and dancing at the MGM Grand Detroit on May 19; and a bus tour of the city May 20. The Wayne State University School of Medicine is hosting a black tie gala, A Sesquicentennial Celebration, recognizing our 150-year history of urban clinical excellence and community outreach in the heart of Detroit. The celebration will take place Sept,  22 at the MGM Grand Detroit. During the event, we will also honor distinguished alumni and community members with the 2018 Ambassador, Trailblazer and Distinguished Community Service awards. Click here for more information and to register.

For 150 years, the Wayne State University School of Medicine has remained committed to serving the Detroit community. It is only fitting, then, that the School of Medicine’s sesquicentennial anniversary is also the inaugural year for the Herman and Eva Blum Endowed Award, an award established by Dr. David and Mrs. Marie Blum, which will annually honors one student for outstanding devotion to community service. Read more.
