Students to make spring break count

Cancun, Miami Beach and South Padre Island are top spring break destinations for college students looking to escape the cold and have some fun before final exams and graduation. However, for the last 17 years, a group of Wayne State students has elected to stay home and spend their week off participating in Alternative Spring Break Detroit. Creating a culture of CARE

College can be a stressful time, and students experience a variety of pressures related to academic work, relationships and other aspects of their busy lives. In keeping with Wayne State University’s mission to create a welcoming community for all students, the Dean of Students Office has positioned itself as a command center for care. All students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to play a role in making those connections by submitting a CARE Report online in the event that they are concerned about a student.

Hosts needed for Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program students

Imagine turning a simple trip to the mall or the movies into an opportunity to create long-lasting memories with a visiting college student from Iraq, engaging in a little soft diplomacy and having a good time in the process. The Office of International Programs (OIP) can make that happen! Since 2017, Wayne State has hosted the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program (IYLEP), which brings 100 Iraqi college students to the U.S. for a month to learn about leadership, civic engagement and peacebuilding. OIP is looking for host families to house, feed and provide a uniquely American experience for IYLEP students for either one or two weekends in July.
