Campus Health Committee

Dear campus community,

Earlier today, the University of Michigan and Michigan State University announced that they are implementing vaccine mandates in response to COVID-19 increases across the country and the latest information regarding the delta variants. We have heard from many of you concerning this issue. While our situation is different from others in many ways, and while our local data continues to be good, we have seen an increase in cases statewide in the past three days. We will continue to track these data over the next several days. Depending on that data, we may also consider implementing a campuswide vaccine mandate.

I hope many of you had a chance to tune in to the Campus Health Town Hall we held on Thursday afternoon. Dr. Paul Kilgore and Dr. Ramona Benkert from the Campus Health Committee addressed health-related questions around the current state of the coronavirus. If you missed it, you can watch it here

Our plan is to conduct these town halls every two weeks moving forward to answer your questions regarding COVID-19 in our community, as well as campus health-related policy and practices. We hope this approach will allow us to examine and answer the questions you have about each topic in the depth they deserve. Our next town hall will be held Aug. 12 at 1 p.m.  You can RSVP and submit your questions in advance.

We are also aware of the prevalence of misinformation widely circulating on social media and elsewhere. We want to make sure that members of our community have access to real-time, accurate answers about COVID-19 incidence, transmission or the strategies we are using to protect the campus community. We are therefore pleased to tell you about our new Campus Health Committee mailbox. If you have a question, or if someone on campus asks you about COVID-19, please direct them to this address. Please consider this mailbox a one-stop source for campus-related COVID-19 information. Feel free to submit a question, or direct others who have questions to this address.

If your question relates to your own specific clinical situation, we encourage you to contact your primary care provider or the professional staff at the Campus Health Center via email or at 313-577-5041.

Finally, we are pleased to announce the new and updated “Stay Warrior Safe” training modules; check the training website for updates. While not required, these short modules provide basic, evidence-based information based in the current science.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Sincerely,

Laurie M. Lauzon Clabo

Chief Campus Health and Wellness Officer
