Fellow Warriors, 

On behalf of the Wayne State University Student Senate, we would like to show our full support for the operating engineers on campus, IUOE Local 324. The operating engineers are a vital part of the campus ecosystem, maintaining buildings, monitoring water for Legionnaires’ disease and lead, managing HVAC systems, and changing air filters. They play a key role in keeping campus safe for us to visit, eat, live and study. 

As they begin negotiations after going into their second year without a contract, we would like say loudly and proudly that we support them in their negotiations with the university. We believe that the people who keep our campus running day to day should be fully staffed and compensated fairly as licensed professionals who know what they’re doing to continue to keep campus safe for everyone. We are proud to support all of our faculty and staff here on campus.
