Graduate School - Wayne State University

Good afternoon,

The coronavirus pandemic continues to affect our daily lives, and many of us continue to experience financial hardships. To alleviate some of this stress, graduate students may apply for emergency funding. These funds are available through the Wayne State CARES III Block Grant.

Funds through the CARES III Block Grant are intended to assist students with various costs that arise due to the pandemic, including tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), child care or other emergency costs. Funding is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so I recommend applying as soon as possible.

The application is brief and easy to complete. Every effort is made to have a decision within two business days. Funds are then dispersed three days after a decision is made. Complete the online application here.

To be eligible, you must be enrolled in the current semester and have not yet received a WSU CARES III award. Preference will be given to students with documented need based on their 2021-22 FAFSA. Exceptions will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. If you do not qualify based on the eligibility criteria, you may still request assistance from the Student Emergency Grant fund.

For more information on CARES funding, visit the Coronavirus Financial Aid Updates and FAQs page.

As always, the Graduate School is here to help! Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.

Sincerely,

Dr. Amanda Bryant-Friedrich
