Advising Circles

ATA Advising Circles is a new initiative beginning this summer, 2022. These virtual sessions are created by advisors for advisors, so we need your time and talent! You are invited to team up, or brainstorm your own session on ways to support your colleagues, build a sense of community, and have some fun! Some potential topics include:

Self-care and wellness
Doing less with less
Community Building
Advisor Advocacy
Post-pandemic Advising: Examining a Hybrid Approach

Writing your Personal Philosophy of Advising is an important professional development experience that can be a source of inspiration, consistency, and clarity for one's practice. And, since our personal philosophies change as we grow personally and professionally, it is a process that should be renewed regularly. 

Please join the ATA for a two-part series with the goal of completing your PPA for use in your advising practice. Session dates are:

  • Part 1: June 29, 10-11 a.m.
  • Part 2: July 13, 10-11 a.m.

The Road Less Talked About: Understanding the journey from probation to academic recovery  

This session will take advisors through the WSU probation process, review common strategies and approaches for academic recovery, and discuss ways to support and encourage students as they navigate the journey back to academic success. Special discussion around helping students explore options, set realistic goals, and approach recovery with a growth mind-set will be presented. Monday, June 20, 2-3:30 p.m. on Zoom. Join the Degree Works Team for refresher training and advisor Q&A on any topic related to Degree Works on Thursday, June 30 from 10-10:30 a.m. on Zoom. This half-hour, virtual training will continue as a monthly feature, the last Thursday of each month, for 2022. Bring your questions and student examples or come learn from others. No RSVP required.
