Dear members of the campus community, As we plan for the fall semester, I wanted to share the health and safety policies in place for the new academic year. We will continue to be guided by the current science, making adjustments as needed throughout the year. You can access updates regularly at wayne.edu/coronavirus. Campus Daily Screener The Campus Daily Screener is an online tool that helps us monitor cases on campus, track vaccine status and, when necessary, guide campus responses to any changes. It is available on the Wayne State website and mobile app. The campus community will continue to be expected to fill out the screener each day before coming to campus and any day symptoms are experienced — even if you are not coming to campus. The screener must also be completed when attending any Wayne State sponsored event or any off-campus class, such as a clinical rotation. If you are cleared to come to campus, you will receive a green barcode and may be asked to produce it. You will continue to be required to show it at entrances to the Welcome Center, the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center, the Student Center Building, libraries, and residence halls. If you receive a red screener, you will not be allowed on campus and will get a phone call from the Campus Health Center (CHC). Please answer your phone when you receive this call. It may take up to an hour for the CHC to respond to your red screener result. In most instances, you will be asked a few simple questions and then “cleared” for campus with a green screener. Vaccine mandate To be allowed on campus for the fall semester, Wayne State will continue to require all members of the campus community to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine mandate, which requires two doses of an mRNA vaccine such as Moderna or Pfizer, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, followed by one booster. The booster is due five months after the initial series. If you have not received your COVID-19 vaccine, you can schedule an appointment at the Campus Health Center or at a location convenient to you. Additionally, by Oct.15, all members of the campus community will need to submit proof that they have received a flu vaccine. If you have additional questions about your clinical situation, the vaccines and their availability, please call the Campus Health Center at 313-577-5041 or review the COVID-19 FAQs on their website. If you have any additional questions about these policies or vaccine waivers, contact the Campus Health Committee. Additional information about vaccine waivers and exemptions can be found on the main university coronavirus website. Masking Our current mask policy for students, faculty and staff will continue, requiring masks in all classroom and laboratory settings. In most other areas on campus, masks are optional. This policy may be adjusted as appropriate, based on COVID-19 data. Those who wish to continue wearing masks while on campus are encouraged to do so.
