Wayne State University

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to share that as of Thursday, July 27, Wayne State University officially established through university policy the WSU Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.

We created this council at the recommendation of the Social Justice Action Committee, which I commissioned in June 2020 in the aftermath of George Floyd's murder. The DEI Council, which has representatives from all schools, colleges and divisions, first convened in August 2021 and is chaired by the university’s chief diversity officer.

The DEI Council’s purpose is to foster anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion at Wayne State by assessing and reporting on the institution’s progress in these domains and by offering strategic advice to the associate provost and chief diversity officer.

You can find a list of members on the council's website. The council policy – University Policy 2023-01 – can also be found online

The work of the council is yet another demonstration of our commitment as a university to fostering an environment where everyone is welcomed, included and able to pursue their dreams.

Regards,

M. Roy Wilson
