The School of Social Work recognizes an instructor for their dedication and efforts to create and foster an inclusive and equitable learning environment for students. The selected instructor will have demonstrated student success by prioritizing respect and value of all viewpoints, eliminating educational opportunity gaps, creating a welcoming and respectful environment that fosters trust for all, and utilizing equity-minded practices.

Criteria

Criteria for this award are outlined below and should focus on the following:

  • Demonstrative implementation of inclusive teaching methods/strategies/practices.
  • Design and maintenance of an inclusive course climate.
  • Promotion of a learning environment that values diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrative impact on student learning and well-being.

Nominations

Nominations may be submitted by any undergraduate or graduate social work students, alumni, or instructors. Self-nominations are also welcomed.

Nomination packet

Two letters of support that provide evidence of how the nominee exhibits the award criteria.

  • One letter must be from a student.
  • Letter writers should be familiar with the nominee’s course design/instructional delivery.
  • One-page summary of teaching philosophy highlighting the nominee’s inclusive teaching practice(s), with one-inch margins, 12-point, and Times New Roman font.
  • Letters should be no more than two pages, with one-inch margins, 12-point, and Times New Roman font.

Nominations must be submitted by Friday, March 15, 2024. The award recipient will receive $1,000.
