At a hearing today on the Harvard/MIT motion for a temporary restraining order of the ICE Guidance issued on July 6, the Trump administration agreed to rescind the policy that would have required international students to enroll in at least one in-person course in order to remain in the U.S. In light of today’s announcement, universities can revert to guidelines that went into effect in March. These guidelines allow continuing students who are in the U.S. to enroll in all online courses for the fall 2020 term. More details are still emerging and we will share them as they become available. Our mobilization and advocacy efforts, just a small part of a nationwide movement, paid off. We are grateful for the assistance of the Wayne State campus community - administration, faculty, staff and students - which rallied on campus and worked with organizations across the country to lobby against this policy and advocate for international students. We are particularly grateful for the leadership of our academic administration and faculty and their tireless work to accommodate our international students. Again, we thank everyone for their support of our international students. They are and will continue to be an integral part of our campus, and they bring value and richness to our culture.
