Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies - Wayne State University

Dear friends and alumni of the Center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies:

Last May, several of you had the wonderful idea of honoring Dr. Jorge L. Chinea's service and commitment to providing opportunities to underrepresented students at WSU, by creating an endowed scholarship in his name. Thanks to the efforts of the Center’s assistant director, Melissa Miranda Morse, and colleagues from the Division of Development & Alumni Affairs, we are ready to start accepting contributions for this worthy project.

When fully funded, this scholarship will be awarded to a student who is earning a minor in Latino/a Studies at WSU and maintains at least a 2.5 GPA, with preference given to students with a demonstrated commitment to community service/engagement.

You can access the donation page by following this link warriorfunder.wayne.edu/chinea or the button below:

Please keep in mind that at this point we are proceeding very slowly, since this is a time-consuming effort, and the Center’s staff is dedicating most of their attention to offering our students the guidance and support that they need in this new situation of remote learning due to the COVID-19 crisis. However, we have set an initial goal of $7,500 by May 2021, and we invite you not only to contribute, but also to share this call with other friends of the Center who are able and willing to financially support its mission.

Looking forward, we would like to reach a goal of $25,000 by 2023, at which point we can endow the scholarship where it can continue to support students in perpetuity. Best wishes to all, and as always, many thanks for your tireless support for the Center. Unidos, todo es posible.
