A Fine Line Movie

Movie Night and a Call to Action

We are currently amid two pandemics: Covid19 and mass exhibitions of racism. While we face these pandemics head on, we do not want to lose sight of another important battle – gender equity across disciplines. The WSU SOM Office of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development (OFAPD) and the Women in Medicine and Science Group (WIMS) together with several partners across WSU is hosting a social event for our community to connect virtually as we continue to understand the battles many women face in their endeavors to rise to leadership roles in their industries. We will be streaming the Documentary “A Fine Line – A Woman’s Place is in the Kitchen” to underline the importance of diversity, inclusion, and equity in achieving excellence.

This thought-provoking movie illustrates many of the challenges that women, especially women of color, face as they juggle careers and domestic responsibilities – a story of hardship and success. It is our hope that we can consider our own challenges and successes as we watch – and share our ideas and visions to make way for real change.

Date and Time

We have collaborated with the producer of the documentary to arrange a special screening for the WSU family and are hoping that you will join us with your families and loved ones in watching this entertaining and enlightening short movie (70 min).  The live screening will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 5:00 pm. A link will be provided to all who register for this event.

To make this social event more meaningful, we have provided a Bingo Card with several themes that contribute to gender inequity in the workplace. We request that you print this out and settle down in your favorite chair with your favorite drink and snack and mark off the themes that you recognize as you watch the movie. To get extra points, make a note of the details of these instances. The first to type “bingo” in the chat will be eligible for a small prize.

Thoughts, Reflection and Time for Live Discussion

We will have a discussion of this movie and the reactions it provokes on September 15, 2020 at 12 noon.

We look forward to your engagement in this social event and the discussion on the following Tuesday. This will foster collaborative brainstorming to identify initiatives to address inequities in the workplace.
