Office of Housing & Residential Life - Wayne State University

As we approach the Thanksgiving Break, we want to share some information regarding the university closure and the services available to our residents.

All buildings remain open

Campus housing remains opens for all residents during the Thanksgiving break, Wednesday, November 25 through Sunday, November 29. All building front desks will be staffed 24/7, and our standard security protocols remain in place, including the new guest policy.  If you stay on campus this break, we look forward to sharing this holiday with you!

Dining options

There is typically a break in meal plan service over the Thanksgiving break per the Housing License Agreement. As more residents may choose to remain on campus this year due to COVID precautions, Towers Café will remain open and serve brunch and dinner each day during the break at no additional cost to residents who have meal plans.  Dining Services will also be serving a traditional Thanksgiving feast for dinner on Thursday, November 26.

You can view the menu for meals being served at Towers Cafe from November 25 through November 29 online.

To help us plan this complimentary meal service during Thanksgiving recess, please take a moment to indicate what meals you will likely attend by completing a short questionnaire.

Leaving campus?

If you choose to leave campus for the holiday break, we encourage you to share your plans with your roommate(s) and take some time to prepare your room or apartment for your time away.

We recommend you:

  • clean out any perishable food from your refrigerator
  • return any used Towers To-Go container to Towers Cafe
  • take any waste to your trash room/dumpster
  • ensure your windows are closed
  • set your thermostat to 68º

While you are away from your home on campus, we remind you to practice mask-wearing and social distancing.  The State of Michigan recently published recommendations for students to minimize the spread of COVID-19 by preparing before you leave campus AND while you are gone.   For the health and safety of both you, those you may visit, and our campus community, please continue to follow the COVID recommendations provided by the CDC.
