Seeking Themes and Faculty to Highlight for Academic Year 2021-22!

The Provost is committed to the development and success of faculty, academic staff, and students in Wayne State's 13 schools and colleges and views student and faculty/staff success as inextricably linked. With this vision in mind, Faculty Impact aims to celebrate faculty successes and encourage interdisciplinary collaborations that inspire junior colleagues and students to persist and be successful in their endeavors.

Academic Leadership Academy (ALA) application deadline extended

Due to a technical error in the online application, we have extended the submission deadline for applications to the 2021-22 Academic Leadership Academy (ALA) until midnight of April 16. Our sincere apologies if you attempted to apply and experienced difficulties. If you are at all interested in applying, please do not hesitate to do so.


Requesting Topics/Themes for Professional Development Programming

We are seeking 2021-22 professional development programming ideas for faculty and academic staff!

We would love your feedback to create relevant and pertinent professional development programming for the next academic year as we continue to evolve and adapt to working during a pandemic.

Please complete this survey so we may offer seminars next year that support your current needs. The survey should take about five (5) minutes to complete, and your feedback with help us considerably.

Want to promote the great work the people in your department/unit/program are doing on social media but don't know where to start? Join us for a hands-on webinar with Dr. Jennifer Hart of the WSU Department of History to learn the ins and outs of Twitter.

Chair Chats
Wednesday, April 21 (9:00 – 10:30 a.m.)

These informal sessions hosted by the Provost's Office will allow both new and experienced Department Chairs to network and share ideas and best practices with each other and offer ideas for future career and leadership development programming. For some sessions, university representatives will be present to inform Chairs of new developments and to answer questions about university functions and units. During the 2020-21 academic year, Chair Chats will be held through Microsoft Teams on the third Wednesday of every month from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Please contact Jake Wilson if you need help accessing Chair Chats. 


Additional Professional Development Seminars from the Office for Teaching & Learning (OTL)

LGBTQ SkillShare & Strategy Exchange
Thursday, April 8 (1:00 – 2:30 p.m.)

To celebrate Pride week, the GWS and OTL are teaming up! During this panel, instructors at WSU will be sharing strategies, examples, exercises, and lesson plans from their own classrooms and disciplines. Bring digital copies of your favorite lesson plans -- we want to hear from our audience!

Creating an Inclusive Environment in Your Class
Tuesday, April 20 (3:00 – 4:00 p.m.)

This panel will involve both instructors and students who will discuss what inclusivity in the classroom setting means and why it is important. Furthermore, panelists will share strategies they have implemented to successfully manage difficult conversations and strategies to manage conversations that have gone off the rails. Attendees will explore best practices for effectively facilitating difficult conversations in their classes.

Revising and Resubmitting to Scholarly Journals
Friday, April 23 (noon – 1:00 p.m.)
      

R&R in the academy can be the opposite of rest & relaxation – revising and resubmitting to scholarly journals can be tough! In this Scholarly Writing Brown Bag, Jade Metzger-Riftkin, (OTL GTA & Ph.D. candidate, Department of Communication) will walk you through some key aspects of the R&R process, including how to interpret reviewers' comments, systematically address reviewer concerns, and drafting a letter to editors and reviewers.
