They will learn to recognize the factors leading to compassion fatigue. They will also learn about the signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue. Lisa MacLean, M.D., is the Chief Clinical Wellness Officer for the Henry Ford Medical Group in Detroit, Michigan where she develops programming to assist clinicians in optimizing healthy coping strategies, finding good life balance and delivering high quality health care. Prior to her appointment at Henry Ford Health in 2017, Dr. MacLean served as Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Career Development at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. MacLean’s has a long relationship with Henry Ford Health System. Previously, she worked at Henry Ford Hospital where she served as Psychiatry Residency Program Director, Chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee, and Director of Education for the Psychiatry Department.

Amy Freedman, MSW, SHRM-CP WSU Account Director, Ulliance, Amy Freedman is a Masters level Social Worker, along with a SHRM-CP, with 17 years of expereince. Amy's practical knowledge in mental health, and understanding of the role HR provides in the area of employee relations gives her a unique frame of reference, and she believes this helps her to connect more effectively to the cosultation needs of her clients. Travis Van Dyke, Wayne State University, HR Wellbeing Coordinator Travis has a passion for wellness and fitness and has worked in employee wellness for over 3 years. It took him a few years after graduating from Oakland University, working in human resources, for him to realize his true calling was wellness. He obtained his certified strength and conditioning specialist certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Association in August of 2020 during the pandemic. He loves all things fitness and even built his own gym in his basement. He currently lives with his Fiancé Catherine and their dog Luna. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, baseball, strength coaching, and of course, working out.

Structural Racism 101: Basic Training for DoctorsWayne State University Law School Prof. Peter Hammer will help attendees understand the dynamics of structural racism as an evolving dialectic between belief systems and institutions that have mutated in form from slavery, to Jim Crow segregation, to the forms of spatial-structural racism that define Southeast Michigan. In the second session of this 4-part workshop series we will define and distinguish the many forms of racism that we confront: express racism, structural racism, spatial racism and forms of implicit bias. Peter J. Hammer J.D., Ph.D., Peter J. Hammer is the director of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights and a professor at the Wayne State University Law School. Previously, he was an assistant professor at the University of Michigan Law School. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan School of Public Health in the Department of Health Management and Policy. At Wayne State, Professor Hammer has helped redesign the school's health law curriculum. His work focuses on the study of federal antitrust law and the legal issues surrounding changes in the health care industry. Professor Hammer maintains an active interest in international human rights and questions of law & development.

When: Friday, January 7, 2021 Time: 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Guest Speaker: Howard Schubiner, MD, Dr. Howard Schubiner is an internist and the director of the Mind Body Medicine Center at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Michigan and a Clinical Professor at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He has authored more than 100 publications in scientific journals and books, and lectures regionally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Schubiner is a senior teacher of mindfulness meditation and the author of three books: Unlearn Your Pain, Unlearn Your Anxiety and Depression, and Hidden From View, written with Dr. Allan Abbass. Dr. Schubiner lives in the Detroit area with his wife of thirty-seven years and has two adult children.
