Wayne State University

Dear campus community,

I’m excited to announce that cases and positivity rates have decreased to the point where we can safely resume in-person classes and reinstate many of the on-campus activities that make an education in Detroit so unique.

Beginning Monday, Jan. 31, classes will generally default to their originally scheduled formats for the winter 2022 semester. If your class was originally scheduled to meet on campus, it will do so beginning Jan. 31 unless you receive other guidance from your professor, who will work with the department and school or college to make any changes. Please check your schedule to confirm your class format, meeting dates and times. Accommodations will be available for students who are ill or who must quarantine.

In addition, we are excited for the return of a more vibrant campus experience. Beginning Jan. 31, we will also reopen campus dining, retail and libraries; reinstate many in-person academic and social activities; open theatrical and athletic events to spectators; and welcome guests for campus tours. Staff are expected to return to the work arrangements they had in place prior to the Thanksgiving break. I’ve been pleased with implementation of these flexible work arrangements where they have been possible, and we will continue to assess them until the end of the winter academic term, or May 1, at which time we will make our final determination about an official policy.

Please continue to follow all safety guidelines while on campus. Masks are required to be worn inside all campus buildings; to best protect from the spread of the omicron variant, KN95 masks are recommended. Continue to complete the Campus Daily Screener before coming to campus, and stay home if you are sick.

Remember that all students, faculty and staff are required to submit proof of their COVID-19 vaccines and boosters, along with the flu vaccine. If you have not received your vaccines or boosters, they are available at the Campus Health Center.

Please join Wayne State’s Chief Health and Wellness Officer Laurie Lauzon Clabo for a virtual town hall at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, where she and other members of the Campus Health Committee will discuss the latest information regarding COVID-19. More information will be coming shortly from the provost and the Campus Health Committee. Continue to monitor Wayne State’s COVID-19 page for the latest campus updates.

Thank you for your continued dedication to the safety of our community. We look forward to seeing you on campus!
