OTL Faculty Teaching Highlights:
Engagement and best practices with Edpuzzle

Andria Eisman explains how to use the tool Edpuzzle in hybrid courses

Welcome to our twelfth edition of Faculty Teaching Highlights, presented by faculty, for faculty. This series features WSU instructors' effective teaching strategies that you can readily implement into your courses.

In this edition, Andria Eisman, assistant professor of community health, explains how you can use Edpuzzle in hybrid instruction to boost engagement, allow opportunities for comprehension checks for students and make lecture videos more interactive. Edpuzzle is an application that allows you to add interactive questions to videos that you want to use in your courses – either your own recordings or publicly available videos on YouTube or other sites. It offers multiple-choice and open-ended question formats as well as a note function. Students can answer questions while watching the videos to stay engaged and check their understanding of the course content as they are viewing it. Edpuzzle integrates with assignments in Canvas and Wayne State has pro licenses available. Andria discusses the challenges of hybrid and asynchronous teaching and highlights pedagogical best practices along with tips on incorporating Edpuzzle into your course.

As you are planning for the fall semester and thinking about ways to promote student engagement, feel free to reach out to us to discuss if Edpuzzle is the right tool for you. Contact the Office for Teaching and Learning to schedule a consultation.
