Campus EventsWednesday, September 21st | 5:30pm – 6:30pm Student Center, Multipurpose Room—Room 775 Join Latinx Student Association, OMSE, and GSW as we begin our four-part watch party series of Visions of Us: LGBTQ Latine Representation in TV & Film, a mini-documentary. This first event celebrates Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month and Bisexual Awareness Week. We will watch Episode 3 of the short documentary and have a discussion on the representation of bisexual Latinx/Hispanic actors in TV and film. Visions of Us is a four-part digital documentary series that celebrates, uplifts and highlights some of the most groundbreaking queer Latinx characters and scenes in TV and Film, and the talent who brought them to life both onscreen and off. Stay Tuned...Voter & Civic Engagement in Hispanic/Latinx Communities As we enter into the mid-term election season, join OMSE for a conversation on voter and civic engagement in Hispanic/Latinx communities. Come hear from campus and community partners about how to register to vote in person or absentee, how to research and understand ballot initiatives and candidates, what it looks like to be more engaged in your community outside of voting, and what civic engagement can look like for undocumented students. Community EventsSaturday, October 22nd & Sunday, October 23rd | noon – 4pm Detroit Institute of Arts Make your own Papel Picado, which literally means “punched” or “perforated” paper. This form of traditional folk art is popular throughout Mexico where brightly colored strings of papel picado are strung across streets, public spaces and in homes during secular as well as religious celebrations and festive occasions. Free with general admission. General museum admission is FREE for residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. |
