From the Dean’s Desk - Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences - Wayne State University

Colleagues,

Late last week, the WSU School of Medicine published an announcement regarding the formal agreement between Wayne State University and the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. While the School of Medicine has oversight over operations, I would like to clarify that WSU Applebaum is a significant contributor to this new partnership.

Within the formal agreement, WSU Applebaum will continue to take responsibility for creating a highly trained workforce in clinical laboratory science, mortuary science and pathologists' assistant. We have also committed to creating a bachelor's degree program in health sciences, which as you know is already in the works.  As such, this new partnership with the WCME, School of Medicine, School of Social Work and College of Nursing will allow us to advance and grow our educational mission.

This agreement relies heavily on the expertise in our college, as WCME will look to expand its workforce in all areas. The students and alumni we train here will be in the spotlight. For that reason, I foresee a growth in our relationship with the School of Medicine as a whole, as well as our visibility in the community.

I appreciate all you do to support health care in Wayne County and beyond.

Sincerely,

Brian S. Cummings, PhD
Dean and Professor
Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
