Welcome back!

welcome january written on a piece of paper next to a fancy pen and a cup of hot coffee

Happy new year, and welcome to the new semester! We hope you had a safe and restful break. Whether you are the type of person who makes sweeping resolutions or prefers gradual change, a new year is an opportunity for transformation.

An end-of-year YouGov poll indicated the most popular resolutions for 2023 were predictably tied between improving physical health (20%) and saving more money (20%). Whatever your plans for the year or the semester, remember to take time to check in with yourself, set reasonable goals, and maintain balance.

What are our goals for the semester? We're hoping to continue to support and celebrate faculty and academic staff, planning professional development sessions on the promotion and tenure process, release time and grants, leadership training, and more. As always, check out our professional development seminar page for the most up-to-date information.

Learn more about the Academic Leadership Academy

The Academic Leadership Academy (ALA) was created to offer leadership training to full-time faculty and academic staff who often do not have the opportunity to engage in leadership development and mentoring prior to taking on formal or informal leadership roles. By participating in the one-year program, participants, known as ALA Fellows, build on their emerging leadership skills by applying what they learn to their current roles or a leadership project of their choice.

Applications to next year's ALA cohort are open now through Apr. 7, 2023.

If you'd like to learn more, informal Q&A sessions with the ALA Steering Committee and ALA alumni are scheduled for the following dates/times (click on the date to download an .ics file, and double-click the downloaded file to add it to your calendar):

These sessions are informal, and you needn't feel pressured to stick around once your questions are answered.
