Update on Scott Hall VivariumJanuary 17, 2023The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources and the Office of the Vice President for Research undertook a significant renovation of the vivarium within Scott Hall. This project includes major improvements to the animal housing capacity, functionality of the vivarium space, and critical improvements to the working conditions for all who use this space. This project commenced in 2021 with an anticipated completion in 2022. During the final commissioning process, a critical issue was noted within the ductwork of the HVAC system that prevented the HVAC system from operating appropriately. This issue required a significant re-design and re-construction of the HVAC system. At this time, we anticipate that the vivarium will become operational in Spring 2023. Although these delays are frustrating to everyone, it is vital that the vivarium is operating effectively before we begin to use the space. We look forward to using this vivarium in the near future to further enhance the research mission at Wayne State. We will update the campus community as we get closer to reopening this important research space.
