Looking forward to warmer, slower days

Nancy Brown Peace Carillon on Belle Isle

Wow, April is gone? That went fast! We were so happy to see so many of you at last week's Academic Recognition Ceremony. Check out the photo gallery and program of awardees, and be sure to congratulate all our amazing colleagues.

Once again, we made it to May and warmer weather. We appreciate everyone's hard work in getting this far, and thank you all! Stay safe and well; we're not going anywhere, so reach out if you've got any questions, but the newsletter will return in the Fall!

Professional Development Opportunities for Academic Staff

people climbing on multicolored gears

Join us at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, May 8, to learn how, when, and why to apply for contractual release time available to all academic staff wishing to pursue professional development opportunities and how to access professional development funding from the Provost's office available to academic staff with ESS. We'll be joined by Sara Kacin, Assistant Provost for Faculty Development, and Kristen Chinery and Rachel Pawlowski, academic staff familiar with the contract and procedures.

Although things will be quieter in the summer months, you can always check our professional development page and follow the Faculty Success Twitter to learn about additional upcoming professional development programming.

Teaching Faculty: Collecting Materials for Promotion

The recent change in job titles for teaching faculty has led to new questions that the upcoming session Teaching Faculty: Collecting Materials for Promotion hopes to answer. Assistant/associate professors of teaching who want to learn more about what to include in their materials when applying for promotion can join the Office for Teaching and Learning at noon on Wednesday, May 17, in the Teaching Commons, Purdy/Kresge Library (Room 150) or virtually via Zoom for a discussion on how to approach your personal statement, collect materials and prepare your teaching portfolio. Attendees will have time to collaborate and generate ideas. Lunch will be provided for those attending in person, courtesy of the Teaching Faculty Committee.
