School of Medicine - Wayne State University

Dear Class of 2024,

Please look at your schedules to determine the best date below to attend the newly modified End of Life seminars. These seminars are important sessions on advanced communication skills that are required as part of your CRISP education requirements. You do not need to attend every session, but you will be required to attend ONE of the following sessions on End of Life care. You will have the ability to choose which one fits best in your schedule. Please note, attendance will be taken, and you will be expected to have your cameras on as referenced in section 7.2 of the Student Handbook. You will also be required to read the attached articles and documents before your session to prepare yourself for the seminar.

As these seminars all take place at the beginning of the month, please request the time from your rotation to attend one of these seminars during the onboarding process for your elective before the start date of your elective. Use the Elective Course Coordinators list for contact names when necessary. Each seminar will take place on Zoom, so you should only be requesting the hours off required to attend (3-5 p.m.). Remember, some of these months will likely be filled with residency interviews, so please plan accordingly when selecting your preferred session.

Please bear in mind you will also be asked to complete some modules throughout the year through the CRISP curriculum related to geriatric medicine, palliative medicine, and end of life care. These modules will help you become better students, better residents and fellows, and ultimately, better attendings.

If you have any questions or concerns or need documentation for your elective, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you,
Hannah
