To SOM - Class of 2024
SUBJECT: MSPE “Dean’s” Letter Season Launch

Dear Class of 2024:

You are entering an exciting phase of your medical education as you begin making early preparations for your residency applications. The Medical Student Performance Evaluation, or “Dean’s Letter,” will be a major component of your application and follows a prescribed format.

Each of you will sit down for a one-on-one meeting with a School of Medicine administrator to finalize and edit your MSPE letter. At that time, you will review your draft Noteworthy Characteristics, Summary Paragraph sections, your academic record, progress and your rotation comments. This required meeting will also be an opportunity for career advising on the specialty of your choice, including where students have matched, target Step 2 scores and how many programs you should be applying to.

Your input is pivotal to the development of your MSPE to best highlight you as an individual. As such, we are inviting your input here for the “Noteworthy Characteristics” section that appears on the cover page of your letter as well as the concluding Summary paragraph on the last page. In order to facilitate an effective MSPE meeting and letter that best features your accomplishments, your timely assistance is needed to develop a draft,  due by May 31. The process is fully explained and self-guided by following this link: https://waynestate.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cAtzesDG3TW3DWC

Ms. Eady coordinates this significant process for the School of Medicine and will proceed with scheduling of your individual MSPE meeting by assigning you to one of our designated letter-writers once you have completed your requested portion. Please note that the MSPE meetings are scheduled on a rolling basis through August. Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this request to complete this pivotal element of your residency application. We look forward to working with each of you during this season.
