The Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC)

The Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC)

All of the GME residency programs have a strong commitment to quality improvement, but I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the participation of our Dept. of Urology faculty and residents in the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC), a QI initiative funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. In a recent European Urology editorial, MUSIC was recognized as “setting an excellent standard for community practice for localized prostate cancer [which] should be a model for other player-clinician partnerships to drive higher-quality, lower-cost care” (April 2023). Assistant Professor of Urology and the J. Edson Pontes, M.D., Distinguished Endowed Chair in Men’s Health Kevin Ginsburg (2014 WSUSOM graduate, 2019 Urology residency program graduate) serves as the MUSIC Prostate Program Co-Director. A urologic oncologist, Dr. Ginsburg researches variation in practice patterns for patients on active surveillance for prostate cancer and how these patterns correlate with clinical and oncological outcomes.
