9:00 am - 10:30 am (Zoom)

Join us November 9 for a free webinar about different models across the country that law enforcement agencies are using to respond to veterans in mental health crisis. We hope this is the beginning of a larger conversation to bring these models to Michigan.

Models include: Veterans Response Teams, specialized law enforcement units explicitly trained to recognize mental health issues, de-escalate veterans in crisis, and link veterans to VA care and other specialized resources; Military Liaison Group (Hamilton County, Ohio), another specialized unit within a police department; and Veteran Justice Outreach (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs), which identifies justice-involved Veterans and contacts them through outreach at the earliest possible point. Speakers for this event include:

  • Kevin Grady (moderator) - Acting Associate Director, VA Battle Creek Health Care
  • Sgt. David Corlett - Cincinnati Police Department, founder of the Military Liaison Group
  • Katharine (Katie) Stewart - Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) National Coordinator, Veterans Health Administration Homeless Programs
  • Chief Michael Jackson – Police Chief of Lower Providence Police Department, USMC Veteran
  • Sgt. Mark Huzzard – Montgomery County Sheriff’s department
