Mental health triage service

  • Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed or anxious?
  • Are you facing relationship issues?
  • Are you feeling lonely, isolated or struggling to adjust to college?

Help is available. The Campus Health Center offers mental health triage to support you with resources to address your needs. This free, confidential service is for currently enrolled WSU students with non-emergency mental health needs only.

To start the process, please complete the mental health triage form. After you've submitted the form, a CHC clinician will contact and guide you through the next steps.

Webinar series coming soon

College can be a stressful time, especially in the post-pandemic world. Lengthy periods of stress can cause anxiety in students and increase the risk of developing an anxiety disorder.

Learn more about what causes stress and anxiety, tips for managing it, and more through the Campus Health Center's "Dealing with Anxiety and Stress in College" webinar series. The first webinar, launching Nov. 20, offers an introduction to anxiety and stress and discusses anxiety-management resources on campus.

Stay tuned in December for the rest of the webinars in the series, including:

  • "Test-Taking Anxiety"
  • "Treating and Managing Anxiety"
  • "Navigating the Winter Blues and Finals Stress"

Free rapid HIV testing

Wayne State University students, faculty and staff can receive free rapid HIV testing the first Wednesday of each month (Dec. 6, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 6, April 3 and May 1) from 10 a.m. to noon at the Campus Health Center.

An appointment is required for free rapid HIV testing. Call 313-577-5041 to schedule your appointment. If we do not reach a minimum threshold for appointments, testing for that month will be canceled.

Please bring your WSU OneCard and/or photo ID to your appointment. Your insurance card is not needed.

Are you ready for winter?

Eight tips as we head into the cold season.

  1. Dress warmly: Be prepared for wintry weather by layering clothing and wearing a warm coat, gloves, a hat and a scarf.
  2. Stay healthy: Boost your immune system by getting enough sleep, eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated.
  3. Plan for shorter days: With less daylight, make sure to schedule your activities accordingly, and consider using a daylight lamp to combat seasonal affective disorder.
  4. Be cautious on icy surfaces: Watch out for slippery sidewalks and streets. Invest in good footwear with proper traction.
  5. Manage stress: The winter months can bring academic pressure. Practice stress-reduction techniques like meditation, yoga or exercise.
  6. Stay connected: Loneliness can be a challenge during the colder months. Maintain social connections with friends and family.
  7. Get active: Engage in physical activities to boost your mood and energy levels. Consider using the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center and/or participating in winter sports.
  8. Plan for transportation: Ensure that you have a reliable mode of transportation, especially if you’ll be traveling home for the holidays. Be aware of any weather-related disruptions.

These tips will help you stay comfortable, healthy and productive during the winter months at Wayne State University.
