Dear Wayne State University community, Please join me in congratulating Dave Massaron for his new senior leadership role with General Motors, as announced today in Crain's Detroit Business. While we will miss Dave's leadership and enthusiasm for Wayne State, I have no doubt that our university, city and state will benefit immensely from his deft hand in this new role as GM's chief economic development and real estate officer. We look forward to having a Wayne State friend at one of Detroit's most defining and storied corporations. He will step down from his role as chief business officer, chief financial officer, senior vice president for finance and business operations, and treasurer effective Dec. 15, 2023. Dave came to Wayne State in 2021 after serving as the budget director for the State of Michigan and has been an incredible asset to our institution. He pioneered our first five-year financial forecast, which provided crucial insights for optimal resource planning and helped us achieve our first balanced budget since the pre-pandemic era. To help boost graduation rates, Dave was instrumental in launching a simplified flat-rate tuition model aligned with our commitment to student success. He also helped guide a successful restructuring for Facilities Planning and Management and designed a data-driven, five-year capital renewal plan to enhance our campus environment. Recently, Dave led the $80 million reconstruction of M. Roy Wilson State Hall, creating a cutting-edge education space for a post-COVID world. He also played a key role in modernizing the WSU Foundation's investment strategy, restructuring spending policies and appointing a new chief investment officer for long-term growth and stability. Bethany Gielczyk has agreed to serve as interim senior vice president for business affairs and treasurer while we conduct a national search for our next senior vice president. I want to personally thank Dave for his service to Wayne State. His achievements have elevated our university, and we are grateful for his impactful contributions. Sincerely,
