2023 web performance highlights
We partnered with a search engine optimization (SEO) specialist to optimize several academic program web pages with keyword-based long-form content and updated website navigation (menus and new buttons).
- Keywords are terms people search for in Google.
- Long-form content refers to in-depth program descriptions and information.
- Our new buttons (example) highlight key actionable items on these pages now visible on desktop and mobile devices within a glance.
Here's a snapshot of results from August to November:
- 73% more clicks on optimized program pages.
- B.S. in Public Health became the highest-traffic program page with over 600 clicks ( 104%).
- B.S. in Biochemistry and Chemical Biology garnered 195.5% views on Google search results and with 118% clicks.
- First-time visitors to these program pages increased 40% month-over-month after the optimization, expanding student reach to more new prospective students.
- Engagement (viewing, clicking) increased by 15% with students finding the long-form content more helpful and insightful, resulting from their increased likelihood to interact with the page (as opposed to just leaving) and completing a request for information form.
- The new buttons resulted in 67% views on request for information forms.
- Google searches such as "BS in neuroscience," "biomedical physics degree," "BS in Biomedical Physics," "BS Physics," "criminal justice major," and "bachelors degree in communication sciences and disorders" moved up to the number one spot on local level search results.
- Notably, a Google search for "BS in biomedical physics" now ranks number one in search results (on the national level), excluding sponsored ads that pay for a top spot.
Optimized programs so far include: B.S. in Public Health, B.S. in Criminal Justice, B.S. in Neuroscience, B.S. B.A. in Psychology, B.S. in Physics Biomedical Physics, B.A. in Global Studies, Bachelor of Public Affairs, B.A. in English, B.S. in Environment Science, B.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders, B.S. in Biochemistry and Chemistry Biology.
As we continue making optimizations, please work with us directly to coordinate updates to program pages so that we can continue to realize the benefits of these search engine optimization (SEO) efforts.
All the best,
Mel Mills
